Why a cheap logo often costs more in the end
A cheap logo is often a template, a slightly edited online design or a quick drawing with no research behind it. It might look fine on a phone screen. The problems appear later:
- it looks like someone else’s logo (or is someone else’s logo),
- there’s no vector file, so it blurs on a banner or vehicle wrap,
- it doesn’t work in one colour, for stamps, embroidery or newspaper adverts,
- it’s unreadable when small, for example as a Facebook profile picture.
What you pay for with a professional designer is the thinking: understanding your customers and competitors, testing the logo at every size, and delivering files that work everywhere.
The files you must receive
Whatever you pay, insist on:
- Vector files (SVG, AI, EPS or PDF), essential for printing, signage and embroidery.
- PNG files with transparent backgrounds for digital use.
- Colour, black and white (reversed) versions.
- The exact colour codes (HEX for screens, CMYK for print) and the font names.
If a designer won’t hand over vector files, walk away.
Protect your logo
- Get written confirmation that ownership and copyright transfer to your business on payment.
- Check that your logo isn’t too close to an existing brand in your industry.
- For long-term protection, apply for trademark registration with PACRA, Zambia’s Patents and Companies Registration Agency.
Logo or full rebrand?
If customers already recognise your logo, you may not need a new one. A refresh can keep that recognition while fixing what’s holding you back: dated fonts, too many colours, or a design that doesn’t work on mobile. We start every branding project with a quick audit to tell you which you need.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a logo cost in Zambia?
A professionally designed logo with several concepts, revisions and full file formats costs about K2,500 at Elev8 Marketing. A complete brand identity with colours, fonts, guidelines and stationery is about K8,000.
How long does it take to design a logo?
A logo package takes about one week from the brief. A full brand identity takes around 3 weeks, and a complete brand suite with strategy and packaging around 6 weeks.
What files should I get with my logo?
At minimum, PNG files with transparent backgrounds, a vector file (SVG, AI or EPS) for printing and signage, a PDF, and black-and-white versions. Without a vector file, you'll struggle to print your logo large.

You should. Make sure your agreement transfers full ownership and copyright to your business. To protect the name and mark, you can apply for trademark registration with PACRA in Zambia.
